Ahoy Out There!

Time to Say Goodbye and celebrate a life.

Mike Dingle via email:

This is Bruno, born Bruce Alan Heidrich, in Detroit, Michigan on February 28, 1953. He succumbed to cancer last year on December 21 in Bay City, MI. We will celebrate Bruno at the Bay View Boat Club on Saturday, February 28, his 73rd birthday. His mother bought him the amplifier in the photograph!

Bruno was a longtime BVBC member and he also was a member of the San Francisco Motorcycle Club, as well as the Mariposa Hunters Point Yacht Club. He served as the BVBC’c Rear Commodore and was known to vote No!

Retired from many years as a Mercedes mechanic, Bruno was also a blues enthusiast and lap steel player. He brought the late, great Freddie Roulette to the BVBC and organized the semi annual Lap Steel Days with other club members and players from the Bay Area steel guitar communities.

Here’s a timeline for Bruno’s celebration: Doors at Noon with food to follow around 1 pm. Music will commence around 1:30 with performances by several of the bands that Bruno played with. The Scallywags and veterans of past LSD days will play prior to the ringing of 8 Bells at 4 pm. The bells will be rung by his brother Glen, who is bringing Bruce to the party. After we share many stories, the music will continue with the Third Thursday Band and Tommy D’s Love Machine. San Francisco Motorcycle Club members will be riding for Bruno, winding up at the Bay View.

First and foremost Bruno was a really good friend to us all.
He was genius mechanic and fix-it guy for many boats, cars and motorcycles and just about anything, including tube amplifiers, one of his many special skills!

Now come and tell us some stories we don’t already know.
If you can’t make it in person, send us any stories or images or videos you have of Bruno’s Blues Bands and his favorite Lap Slide Day events. Share this with your friends.

And in typical last minute dingspam warning, you’ll find the Third Thursday Band at The Saloon this afternoon! … it’s the two pairs (Bruces and Mikes) assisted by the up and coming Ronnie Blaze, and the vocal stylings of John DeGarmo … hope you can make it… Miss you, Bruno!!!    …oxmd
